John Ralph DeBonis, 83, of Auburndale, Florida, formerly of St. Clairsville, died June 3, 2022, in Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, Florida.
He was born October 14, 1938, in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Sam DeBonis and Josephine DiSantis DeBonis.
John was a retired human resources manager from the Belmont County Engineering Department, a former employee of Cravat Coal Company, Eagle Manufacturing, Picoma Industries and Olin Mathieson Aluminum. He served his country for 25 years in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, having served during the Berlin Crisis. John was a member of the VFW Post #5356 in St. Clairsville, he was a supporter and contributor of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; a member of the Kirkwood Lodge #446 F. & A.M. in Hendrysburg, and the Martins Ferry Elks. He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed golfing. John was a devoted Christian who always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Louis DeBonis and a sister, Mary Kulazenka.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol L. Williams DeBonis, two sons, John (Janet) DeBonis of Virginia and Joseph DeBonis and his fiancée Tamatha of Georgia, and his daughter, Jill (Bill) Burns of Wheeling.
Family and friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Matt Close officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove with Full Military Honors conducted by the Belmont County Veteran's Association.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
