VERARDI, Joseph Raymond "Joe", 88, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Cumberland Pointe Nursing Home in St. Clairsville.

Joe was born November 20, 1919 in Fairpoint, Ohio, son of the late Arthur and Theresa Vickey Verardi.

He was a retired coal miner from Cravat Coal Company. Joe was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II where he served as a Staff Sergeant and medic on the General George W. Goethals Medical Transport Ship in the South Pacific and Normandy. He was a Protestant by faith; a past member of the Eagles Aerie 2541 in St. Clairsville; and a member of the Stumptown Steam Threshers Club.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Shannon Verardi; two sisters, Angeline Cervelli and Joan Stufflebeam; two brothers, Carl and Richard Verardi.

Surviving are four children, Carol McGlumphy of Wheeling, Betty Verardi, Ronald (Gayle) Verardi and Rick Verardi all of St. Clairsville; a sister, Alice Verardi of Cleveland; three bothers, Charles (Marsha) Verardi of Cleveland, Frank (Katie) Verardi of California and Fred (Vicki) Verardi of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Deanna Verardi of Fairpoint and Jeanette Verardi; eight grandchildren, William, Robert, Elizabeth, Josie, Cassie, Courtney, J.C. and Chrissy; thirteen great grandchildren, Christopher, Karolyn, Gina, Julia, Sophia, Maria, David, Dakota, Brandon, Nate, Anthony, Kadence and Matthew.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Wayne Ickes officiating. The Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct Full Military Honors at 9:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove.
