Obituary

Holubeck, Joseph John, 90 of St. Clairsville passed away Monday, June 20, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born at Herrick, OH, on April 3, 1921, son of Paul and Anne Michalo Holubeck. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by granddaughters, Adrienne and Lauren Sproull, sisters, Ann Stock Nagy and Louise Masloski, brothers Paul, Michael, and Edward Holubeck, nephews Mickey Holubeck and Michael Stock, and great niece Wendy Stock.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Yudasz Holubeck; Children: Joseph P. Holubeck of Cranston, RI, Betty Jo (Randy) Sproull, Annette (Bill) Kozel, Gary (Mary) Holubeck, and Robert (Cathy) Holubeck all of St. Clairsville; Grandchildren: Jessie, Zachary, and Ethan Kozel, Natalie (Shaun)Gainer, Brett, Annie, Luke, Garrett, Cole, and Maria Holubeck; and one great-grandchild Micah Gainer. In addition he is survived by Sisters, Helen Richetti of Mesa, AZ, and brothers John Holubeck of Cincinnati, OH, and Gus Holubeck of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters in law.

He was owner/operator of St. Clair Lanes, a member of the Bellaire Bowling Association Hall of Fame, and founder of St. Clair Lanes 5 man team tournament currently in its 49th year and one of the largest 5 man tournaments in the nation. He had previously worked for Nickles Bakery and as an insurance agent for Kemper Insurance.

Joe was a member St. Marys Church at St. Clairsville where he served as an usher for many years. Joe was also a member of the PNA Lodge #455 at Maynard, Elks of the Ohio River Valley, Our Lady of Peace Council #4243 Knights of Columbus at St. Clairsville, American Legion Post 159 and the VFW at St. Clairsville.

He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Aleutian Islands, AK.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, at St. Marys Church in St. Clairsville. Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund for youth bowlers in Joe Holubecks memory. (Checks may be made out to St. Clair Lanes Scholarship Fund (Smart Fund).

There will be a Vigil service at 5:00 p.m., a PNA service at 7:30 p.m. and Knights of Columbus service at 7:45 p.m. all on Wednesday at the funeral Home.

Military honors will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions on Thursday at St. Marys Church following the Mass.
