THATCHER, Jennings Eugene "Gene" "Jake", 87, of Plainfield Rd., Belmont, Ohio, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 in Emerald Pointe Care Center, Barnesville.
He was born in St. Clairsville, Ohio on July 3, 1925, son of the late Jennings B. Thatcher and Elsie May Foraker Thatcher.
Gene was a retired carpenter from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Martins Ferry Plant. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Gene was a member of East Richland Friends Church and as a child attended the Great Western School.
Surviving are his loving wife, Beulah Daisy Ferguson Thatcher; his children, Linda Wilson of Avon Lake, Ohio, Woodrow (Cindy) Thatcher of Smyrna, Tennessee and Marjorie (Tim) Wojchowski of Bethesda, Ohio; a brother, Robert (Carolyn) Thatcher of Franklin, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., and again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Wayne Ickes and Rev. Jerry Wenger officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Richland Friends Church.
