Jean L. Caldwell Bigler, 97, of the Captina Valley, Jacobsburg, died Tuesday, August 20, 2019.
She was born November 13, 1921 in the family home on the farm where she would eventually raise her own family and live her entire life.
Jean was the daughter of the late Newell and Anna (Walter) Caldwell. A 1939 graduate of Beallsville High School, she subsequently graduated from the former Elliott School of Business in Wheeling, and was the stenotypist for the President of the former Hazel Atlas Glass Co. in Wheeling.
Her life-long work was as a farm wife-homemaker on what is now a seventh generation family farm. She loved gardening, canning, cooking and baking, often featuring meals entirely raised on the farm.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Howard E. Bigler, a son, Brian H. Bigler, a sister, Eula McGary, 14 in-laws and their spouses.
She is survived by a son, Dennis E. (Alexa) Bigler, grandsons Trevor (Ashley) Bigler and Mason (Heather) Bigler, a great grandson Quinton, nieces and nephews.
She was a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Cemetery UCC Perpetual Care Fund, 51750 German Ridge Road, Powhatan Pt., OH 43942.
Visitation will be 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Toothman Funeral Home, 49484 O.R. & W. Station Road, Jacobsburg, OH.
Visitation will also be held on Saturday, August 24 at the St. John's United Church of Christ, Powhatan Pt., OH from 10:30 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. to be conducted by Reverend Carla Wobschall, with interment to immediately follow in the church cemetery.
