James A. "Jim" Witt, 77, of St. Clairsville, OH, formerly of New Martinsville, WV, died Sunday, October 25 at his residence.
Jim was born in Winbur, PA and is the one of the three brothers born to Charles E. and Gladys (Jones) Witt. The family lived in Westmont PA.
He met his wife Ann Louise Feeley in Niagara Falls, NY where they were wed in 1965. He and Ann had two children, Kenneth James and Jonathan Charles. Ken and wife Lori (Lendon) along with grandson Garrett reside in Mannington, WV. Jon and wife Connie Groves reside in Houston, TX.
Jim attended the University of Pittsburgh and worked as a chemical engineer for DuPont before moving to New Martinsville, WV to work for Mobay / Miles / Bayer Chemical. He moved to St. Clairsville, OH before he retired in 2001.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying backpacking, hiking, and kayaking. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years as an adult leader. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in New Martinsville and then at East Richland Evangelical Friends Church. He spent over 30 years supporting the Young Life organization. He has served as a Gideon for the past several years. He was an advocate for Veterans and served as a volunteer in reestablishing veterans into working situations after returning from active service.
Jim was a Christian above all things and actively studied the Bible as well as other religions. He actively participated in political events to support the constitution as he understood its original intent.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and, most recently, his wife Ann in 2014. He is survived by his sons and grandson, as well as his twin brothers Ronald (and wife Dru) of Fredericksburg, VA and Donald (and wife Ellen) of Roanoke, VA.
A remembrance ceremony will be held at East Richland Evangelical Friends Church on Saturday, October 31st at 11 a.m. with Pastors Jerry Wenger and Wayne Ickes Officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home.
