Obituary

James J. "Jim" Kidd, 66, of Flushing, Ohio; died Thursday, May 15, 2014 in Wheeling Hospital.

He was born in Barnesville, Ohio on March 15, 1948, son of the late James W. and Pauline Rice Kidd.

Jim was a retired coal miner from Consolidation Coal Company's Bailey Mine and was a part-time employee of Absolute Concrete. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Flushing American Legion Post #366. He got his start working at the early age of 10 on the Shutway Farms. He loved his wife, daughters, grandchildren, family and friends like no other. Jim loved Flushing, the people of Flushing and his Cleveland Browns.

Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Peggy VanCuren Kidd; two daughters, Jamie (Brent) Gay of Flushing and Lori (Robin) Snyder of Covington, Ohio; three grandchildren, Samantha, Natalie and Ryan Snyder; three brothers, Bill Humphrey of South Carolina, Fred (Sandy) Kidd of Flushing and Mike (Nancy) Kidd of Bannock; a sister, Sue Mounts of Coweta, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Dutchess.

His smile was contagious and his presence was powerful.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, on Sunday from 1 - 3 and 6 - 9 p.m. and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m., with Robert "Jake" Kidd Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing.

Evening Legion Services will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Full Military Honors will be conducted on Monday in the cemetery by the Flushing American Legion.
