Obituary

Oscar "Jake" Monroe, 64, of Shadyside, died Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling. He was born June 12, 1938 at Shadyside, son of the late Joseph Monroe and Sarah K. Richardson Monroe.

He was a retired coal miner from Oglebay Norton Mine at Captina; a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War; and attended the Powhatan Point Church of the Nazarene.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Jack Monroe, Howard Monroe, John Monroe, Chester Monroe and George Monroe; and a sister, Naomi Monroe.

Surviving are wife, Shirley Palmer Monroe; two sons, Dan Monroe of Shadyside and Chet Monroe of Columbus, OH; a daughter, Jeannie Paboucek and her husband Steve of Barnesville; a sister, Katherine Keyser of Jacobsburg; a brother, Tom Monroe of Shadyside; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, Jacobsburg on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. where services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Don Lawson, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery, Bellaire where Full Military Graveside services will be held.
