Jacob Charles "Buck" Bates, 78, of Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Monday, March 21, 2022, in East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry, Ohio.

He was born December 20, 1943, in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Guy Bates and Reetha Pearl Longwell Bates.

Buck was a retired employee from the city of Bellaire and a member of the Faith Fellowship Church in Bellaire. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, singing and playing guitar, bingo, scratch off lottery games, watching westerns on television and formerly playing pool.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Gail Holmes Bates; two sisters, Geraldine Lamont and Katherine Bates; and a brother, Guy Bates.

Buck is survived by two daughters, Sarah (Tony) Torres and Vida Ann Bates; and two granddaughters, Brooklyn Marie Torres and Brighton Louise Torres.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio for a visitation on Thursday, March 31, 2022, from 2 p.m. until time of service at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Bill Marinelli officiating. Visitation will again be held in evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
