Jack Andrew Hans, 88, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Wheeling Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born on June 4, 1928, in Bellaire, Ohio, son of the late Rhea (Potter) Hans and James Hans.
Jack was a long standing member of Thoburn United Methodist Church, being instrumental in the start up of the Methodist Men's Organization at Thoburn, a member of Thoburn choir and taught Sunday School for several years. He was a life insurance agent and started his career with The Equitable Life Insurance Company and continued when Equitable merged with American General Life Insurance Company. He retired briefly and went back to work for Western Southern Life Insurance and subsequently drove for Senior Services before permanent retirement. He served Richland Township as a Trustee for a few terms, and was a member of The Belmont County Agriculture Society Fair Board, as Treasurer and Concession Manager several years.
Jack was an aviation enthusiast and flew his own single engine airplane for many years. He also, with help from his son-in-law Dave, built from a kit and flew a one-man experimental aircraft.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers James and Richard Hans, twin infant brothers and a sister Dorothy Douthitt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marian (Kreiter) Hans, whom he married on February 16, 1952. He is also survived by three daughters, Pamela (Dave) Kocsis and Melanie (Chip) Ross of St Clairsville, and Heidi (Steve) Hamel of Olmsted Falls, Ohio; grandchildren Brieanna Kocsis and Jessie Ross of Columbus and Jack Hamel of Olmsted Falls, Ohio; nieces, nephews and many wonderful neighbors and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, May 5 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville where services will be held Saturday, May 6 at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor Adam Davis.
Burial follows in Belmont County Memorial Park, St. Clairsville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Thoburn United Methodist Church, St. Clairsville.
