Obituary

Jack R. Hammond, Sr., 80 formerly of Woodsfield, Ohio died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at his home in Concord, North Carolina.

He was born May 22, 1934 in Businessburg, Ohio, a son of the late Asbury Hammond and Mildred Warner Hammond.

Jack was a retired bus driver for Shadyside Schools and former owner of Hammond's American Service Station in Powhatan Point & Dilles Bottom.

He was a member of Woodsfield Presbyterian Church, Center Grange # 2438 where he served as Master for 11 years, held the 7 Degrees of Granges, member of Monroe County Pomona # 23, Clarington Volunteer Fire, Department, True Sportsman's Club of Jacobsburg, Mountaineer CB Club and Monroe County CB Club, Woodsfield EMS, EOC of Monroe County, Board of Birth to Three, Monroe County Fair Board for 8 years, Chairman of Mt. Carrick Community Center, and Vice Chairman of LEPC of Monroe County (5 years as chairman), Switzerland of Ohio Lions Club.

He received several plaques and certificates including the Marvin Jones Award from Lions International and was a Foster Parent for 30 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Jo Prince; three brothers, Robert, William, and Dale Hammond; three sisters, Mary Hammond, Margaret Baron, and Nancy Bellville.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary Jo Marsh Hammond; seven children, Beth (Gary) Brunner of Jacobsburg, Jack Hammond, Jr. of Shadyside, Tammy (Tom) Henderson of Concord, NC, George (Karen) Hammond of Hannibal, Diana (Kris) VanCamp of Powhatan, David (Kiley) Hammond of Fayetteville, NC, and Whitney Hammond of Columbus, OH; a sister, Delores (Paul) Youst of Shadyside, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday with Pastor Kurt Turner officiating.

Burial follows in Powhatan Cemetery.
