Matis, Irma J., 87, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 in Country Club Retirement Center, Bellaire.

She was born in Adena, Ohio on November 20, 1922, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Novak Kalan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John J. Matis; a daughter, Linda J. Matis; a brother, John Kalan Jr.; and three sisters, Helen Kalan, Wilma L. Kalan and Irene K. Vargo.

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Kalan of Neffs; a nephew, Donald J. Vargo and his wife Kay of Maryland; a niece-in-law, Penny Vargo of Maryland; two great nephews, Steven (Julie) Vargo of Virginia and Daniel (Jenny) Vargo of Florida; a great great niece, Olivia Vargo; three great great nephews, Cole, Owen and Carter Vargo.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, with Pastor David Demarest officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
