Howard O. Carpenter, 89, of Flushing, Ohio, died February 13, 2023, at his home.

He was born December 16, 1933, in St. Clairsville, Ohio, a son of the late Harry O. and Verna Taylor Carpenter.

Howard was the former owner and operator of the former M & C Tire Service in St. Clairsville and had worked commercial construction. He was a member of the East Richland Evangelical Friends Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Carpenter; a sister, Betty Simpson; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Carpenter.

Howard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Phyllis Williams Carpenter; four children, Paul (Cindy) Carpenter, Sue (Butch) Kimmel, Karen Brown, and Philip (Lisa) Carpenter; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; five sisters, Edna (Floyd) Paugh, Esther (Bill) Kettlewell, Thelma (Harry) Kettlewell, Martha (Lee) Schell, and Judy (Jim) Coleman; brother-in-law, Junior Simpson; sister-in-law, Linda Carpenter; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.  Visitation will also be held at East Richland Friends Church on Saturday from Noon until time of service at 1 p.m., with Rev. Wayne Ickes officiating. Burial will follow in Richland Cemetery.
