Henry Walter Niemiec, 92, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville, Ohio.

He was born on September 13, 1933, in Flushing, Ohio, a son of the late Frank and Martha Stalz Niemiec.

Henry was a retired employee of the Consolidation Coal Company working in construction and as an electrician. A graduate of Flushing High School in 1952, Henry went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. Having a strong faith in God, Henry served as a Deacon and member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville. He was a Director and Honorary Director of the Stumptown Steam Threshers for 62 years and a member of the St. Clairsville Ruritan Club. Considered a jack of all trades, Henry had even built his own house. Some of his hobbies included restoring 8N tractors, gardening, collecting antiques and having an unmatched love for animals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sophia Repan and Mary Niemiec, and three brothers, Frank, Albert and Edward Niemiec.

Henry is survived by his loving wife, Grace Elizabeth Greenlee Niemiec; two daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” (David) Phillips and Linda (John Gavenas) Niemiec; his former wife and mother of his children, Helen Niemiec; a sister, Rose Chini; two grandchildren, Sarah (fiancée Tanner Och) Phillips and Luke (girlfriend, Veronica Janowski) Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, on Thursday, Sept. 3rd from 4 to 7 p.m., with funeral service on Friday at 2 p.m., with Pastor Henry Lewis officiating. Private burial will be in Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Belmont County Animal Shelter or the charity of the donor’s choice.
