Ethel Helen Higgins Reed, 96 of Belmont, Ohio died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 in Bellaire.

She was born June 7, 1912 at St. Joe, a daughter of the late Harry and Pearl Higgins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Reed; her brothers, Wilfred, Harry Kenneth, William Higgins, and Charles Spoon; her sisters, Inez McGary and Georgia Johnston; grandsons, William and David Bumgardner.

Surviving are her children, William Reed of Winston-Salem, NC., Joyce Johnston of Belmont, and Alan Reed of Columbus; brothers, Paul and Roy Higgins; sister, Jean Good; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Helen was a wonderful mother and a giving friend to those in need. She left her family with love of nature and its creatures. She will be missed by all, including her birds and her dog, Chance.

Helen and her husband's ashes will be buried at Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville in a private graveside service.
