Helen Kalan, age 87, of Neffs, Ohio died Friday, May 27, 2005 at her home.
She was born on February 28, 1918 in Adena, Ohio, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Novak Kalan.
Helen was a retired bookkeeper for Sterling Drug Company in Wheeling, West Virginia. She was a member of the Coalbrook Presbyterian Church in Neffs where she was a senior elder and was a member of the Presbyterian Women.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene K. Vargo and Wilma L. Kalan; a brother, John Kalan Jr.; and a niece, Linda J. Matis.
Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth Kalan of Neffs and Irma Matis and her husband John of St. Clairsville; a brother-in-law, Joseph Vargo of Neffs; a nephew, Donald J. Vargo and his wife Kay of Damascus, Maryland; a niece-in-law, Penny Vargo of Damascus, Maryland; two great nephews, Steven (Julie) Vargo of Virginia and Danny (Jennie) Vargo of Florida; a great great niece, Olivia Vargo; and friend, Larue Mills of Chicago, Illinois.
Family and friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m., with Pastor David Demarest officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
