Helen Joan Dyrdek Barbina, 96, of Lafferty, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 15, 2015.
She was born April 19, 1918 in Neffs, Ohio, daughter of the late Stanley and Louise Kolodziej Dyrdek.
Helen was a retired nurse's aide from Sunshine Nursing Home in Morristown and also worked as a "Rosie Riveter" in Cleveland and Michigan during World War II. She was a member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lafferty and the Catholic Women's Club. Helen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a kind-hearted and giving person who always made time for and helped others. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning and sharing those gifts with others. She had a warm and loving heart that made people smile.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Phillip F. Barbina; an infant daughter; a daughter, Phyllis Wagner; two grandsons, Jason Barbina and Keith Baker; two brothers, Stanley and Ted Dyrdek and a sister, Mary Rosa.
Surviving are her children, Kathryn L. Baker of St. Clairsville, James R. Barbina and his wife Lu Anne of Bethesda and Kenneth F. Barbina and his wife Judy of Lafferty; a brother, Eugene "Gene" Dyrdek of Kettering, Ohio; sister-in-law, Pauline Pitts of Garfield Heights, Ohio; 9 grandchildren, Anthony, Sean, Alisha, Jordan, Kevin, Melissa, Kenny, Adam and Andrew and 15 great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Sunday, April 19th from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 3:45 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 20th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clairsville with Father Thomas Chillog, the celebrant.
