Obituary

BALLOG, Helen Eileen Carr, 90, of Flushing, Ohio died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in Wheeling Hospital.

She was born September 22, 1922, in West Lafayette, Ohio, daughter of the late Howard and Mary Miller Carr.

She graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1940. When World War II was declared she took her civil service test and moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked in Chemical Warfare. She met her future husband, Edward Paul Ballog, through war time correspondence while he was serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. They married on March 16, 1946 after the war ended. She loved her family and loved to read. Helen was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse from Hillview Nursing Home in Flushing and a Methodist by faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Ballog; 2 sisters, Wilma Miller and Harriet Swinger; 3 brothers, John, Robert and Dick Carr.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Barbara Horvath (Kenny Marsh) of Piedmont, Ohio and Judy (Dale) Holmes of Flushing; a son, Edward (B.J.) Ballog, Jr. of Bellville, Illinois; 3 sisters, Mary Breslin of Georgia, Cookie (George) Uther of Norwalk, Ohio and Joyce Woodburn of Virginia; 7 grandchildren, Debbie (Jeff) Birch of St. Clairsville, Wendy (Tim) Genetta of Flushing, Matthew (Melissa) Holmes of Powell, Ohio, Jason (A.J.) Holmes of Marysville, Ohio, Justin Holmes of Dallas, Texas, Heidi Ballog of Alpharetta, Georgia and Gabe (Amanda) Ballog of Rock Hill, SC; 10 great grandchildren, Serena Bryant, Brandon Bryant, Jacob Farmer, Samuel Farmer, Alexis Birch, Brenna Holmes, Lilly Holmes, Clayton Ballog, Marin Holmes and Marsden Holmes; a great great granddaughter, Farah; many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m., where Services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m., with Rev. David Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
