Obituary

Waggoner, Hazel Elizabeth, 89, of St. Clairsville, died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Ohio Valley Medical Center.

She was born in New Milton, West Virginia on September 30, 1918, daughter of the late William Grover Cornell and Laura Pierce Cornell.

Hazel was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid quilter, making many quilts as gifts for her family and friends and donating several for worthy causes and projects. Hazel was a retired seamstress of Barnesville Manufacturing. She was a member of Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville where she was a member of the United Methodist Women?s, Mary Reed Circle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Waggoner; a son-in-law, James Johnson; a granddaughter-in-law, Leslie Phillips; a great grandson, Charles Wayne Phillips; two sisters, Mamie Hinterer and Mabel McCartney; and two brothers, James and Fred Cornell.

Hazel is survived by her children, Laura Dell (Charles) Phillips and Willie Lee (Mary) Waggoner all of Belleview, Florida and Boneva "Bunny" Johnson of St. Clairsville; 7 grandchildren, Charles Lee (Beth) Phillips and Wayne Phillips all of Massillon, Ohio, James Patrick Phillips of Canton, Tom (Jane) Waggoner of Edgewater, Florida, Debra (Robert) Turner of Tampa, Florida, James H. (Beth) Johnson of Columbus, Ohio and Tina (Mike) Johansen of Westerville, Ohio; 9 great grandchildren, Lisa Phillips, Matthew Turner, Alex Turner, Cheyanne Waggoner, Andrew Johnson, Alexander Johnson, Abigail Johnson, Kali Kotterman and Sara Johansen; two sisters, Edith Dailey and Mary Merritt both of East Liverpool, Ohio; and a brother, Thurman (Grace) Cornell of East Liverpool, Ohio.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m., with Rev. Richard Wilson and Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating. Burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery.
