Slotwinski, Hazel Elizabeth, 88, of Lowell, Ohio a lifelong resident of Stewartsville, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 in Selby General Hospital, Marietta, Ohio.
She was born November 30, 1920 in Stewartsville, Ohio, daughter of the late Joseph and Martha Kraynak Planey.
Hazel was a retired Postmaster in Stewartsville with 40 years of service. She was a U.S. Veteran of World War II serving as WAC in the Philippines and New Guinea. She was a member of Clarksburg United Methodist Church; and a 65 year member of the American Legion Posts in Glencoe and Lowell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Slotwinski Jr.; seven sisters, Mary Sickimich, Ann Knight, Jean Clarke, Ellan Planey, Catherine Planey, Margaret Planey and Margaret Kimes; and two brothers, John and Joseph Planey.
Surviving are her daughter, Lynne (Jeffrey) Woollard of Lowell, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Marlene Slotwinski and Luella Planey both of St. Clairsville; many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Larry Helms officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct Military Honor Services on Friday at 12:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
