Harold Russel Scatterday, 84 died Thursday, October 25, 2007.
He was born near Centerville, Ohio March 11, 1923 a son of Russel Brown and Susanna Gummere Scatterday and spent most of his life on the farm where his great grandparents settled in the early 1800?s. He was a life member of Concord Presbyterian Church at Centerville where he served as Elder and Trustee.
He attended Ohio University and Rutgers and was a Purple Heart recipient in World War II having served with the 104th Infantry and being wounded in Holland following the Normandy invasion.
Harold was a charter member of the Smith Township Fire Dept. and a member of Weyer Masonic Lodge, past president of the Belmont County Genealogical Society and Chairman of the Board of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Until recently he carried on the Scatterday business which began in 1880. He also was a manufacturer?s representative for electrical products and more recently, trailers.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Marcelyn Chestone, as step mother, Frances Scatterday, a son in law Roger Wolfe and daughter in law Amalia Scatterday.
He is survived by his wife, the former Floy Jean Pettet, two sons, Jerry Ray of Norcross, Georgia and Dennis Harold of St. Clairsville (Carol) and a daughter, B. Sue Scatterday of Columbus; three grandchildren, Elice Brooks, John Scatterday and Jill (Matt) Horton; three great grandchildren, Linley Brooks, Matthew and Andrea Horton and a sister, Eleanor Jane Moffitt (Russ) of Orange Park, Florida.
Friends may be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, Jacobsburg, Ohio on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Dan Aderholt officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery, Centerville.
Masonic services Sunday at 7 p.m. and Military services Monday at 12:45 p.m. by Belmont County Council of American Legion.
