Burgy, Harold William, 87 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Acuity Specialty Hospital in Bellaire.
He was born April 30, 1923 in Neffs, Ohio, the only child of William Burt Burgy and Laura Bell Reed Burgy.
Harold was a retired employee of North American Coal Company, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII serving in the South Pacific Theatre, a 1941 graduate of Bellaire High School, member of First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville, VFW Post # 5356 and American Legion Post # 159 in St. Clairsville, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Wheeling, the St. Clairsville and Wheeling Senior Centers, the 200 Dance Club and Evergreen Support Group.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Lee Porter Burgy; a son-in-law, Donald Williams.
Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Hilda Bumgardner Burgy; a daughter, Penny Williams of Neffs; two sons, Randy (Cheryl) Burgy of Amherst, Ohio, and Kevin (Colleen) Burgy of Bridgeport; three step daughters, Denise (Mike) Otte of Glen Dale, Debra Jo (Danny) Pegg of Sherrard, and Debbie (Gary) Zadai of Mozart; a step son, Donald (Beth) Bumgardner of Moundsville; a granddaughter; 2 grandsons; 6 great grandchildren; a great great grandson; 5 step grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 12 noon until time of memorial service at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 110 S. Marietta St., St. Clairsville with Rev. Homer Harden officiating.
A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Davis Cemetery at Bellaire.
Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct military honors at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church, 110 S. Marietta St., St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950.
