Gerald V. "Pete" Sloan, 96, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died November 28, 2016 in Park Health Center.
He was born March 29, 1920 in Barton, Ohio son of the late John F. Sloan and Ethel Mae Applegarth Sloan.
Pete was retired from Consolidation Coal Company Georgetown Mine. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; a member of Colerain VFW Post #8848; Maynard American Legion Post #666; Barton Volunteer Fire Dept.; and Weyer Lodge #541 F. & A.M. at Centerville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Sloan; four brothers, William O., Walter L., Robert L. and J. Everett Sloan and a sister, Evelyn G. Sloan.
Surviving are his children, Judith L. (Larry Devine) Hartman of St. Clairsville and W. David (Connie) Sloan of St. Clairsville; five grandchildren, James (Jimmy Johnson) Hartman, Janice Hartman, Jacki (Dave) Keenan, Amy (Scott) Sikora, Bridgett (Tom Duvall) Serrano; five great grandchildren, Madison, Nathan and Caleb Keenan, Dominic and Landen Serrano.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Wenger officiating. Entombment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The Barton VFD will conduct services on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home followed by VFW Post 8848 and American Legion Post 666 conducting evening services which will be followed by Masonic Funeral Services.
Full Military Honors will be conducted on Thursday by the Belmont County Veteran's Association at the Cemetery.
