Obituary

Gerald T. "Jerry" Comas, 85, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Thursday, September 26, 2024, in Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, West Virginia.

He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, on May 8, 1939, a son of the late Michael and Pauline "Polly" Palko Comas.

Jerry was a retired barber, and a retired employee of Custom Business Interiors, and retired from Angelina Stone and Marble and retired driver from Whiteside's in St. Clairsville. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962 and member of the American Legion Post #159. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church where he and wife Donna were the first couple married in the new church. Jerry was a member of former Belmont Lodge #16 F.& A.M. and current Treasurer of Weyer Lodge #541 F. & A.M., a member and Past Worthy Patron of the former St. Clairsville Chapter, and former Bridgeport Chapter and current member of Weyer Chapter #515 Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Kentucky Colonels and El Tor Grotto in Wheeling and a member of the A.H.E.P.A. Miltiades Chapter# 68 in Wheeling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Starr, three brothers, Ted, Jack, and Chuck Comas and his sister, Marlene Jenkins.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Donna M. Hess Comas; three children, Holly (Kevin) Starr, Darby (Janice) Comas and Shaye (Jeff) Lay; grandchildren, Brock (Grace) Starr "The Bigs", Cassie Lay, Darby G. Comas and Ryan Lay "The Littles"; great grandchildren, Jaxon, Alice, and Lydia Rose Starr "The Minis"; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m., with OES Service at 3:50 p.m. and Masonic Service at 7:50 p.m.

The Funeral Service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in St. Clairsville, on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Nancy DeStefano officiating. The burial will follow in Belmont County Memorial Park Cemetery with Full Military Honors conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 238 S. Marietta St. or St. Clairsville American Legion Post #159, 100 Legion Rd. both of St. Clairsville, OH 43950.
