George Edward Knight, 64 of Piedmont, Ohio, passed away in Bellaire, Ohio on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the home of his sister, Evelyn Lori Knight, after an extended illness.
He was born May 19, 1952 in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Thomas Edward Knight and Margaret Coutz Knight.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Joseph Knight; his niece, Mary Margaret (Knight) Jurco; and a great nephew, Bryce Jurco.
He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Lori Knight of Bellaire, former sister-in-law, Betty Knight; several nephews; four great nephews; a great niece, Kelsey; one great great nephew.
George served in the U.S. Army in Berlin, Germany from 1971 to 1974 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Flushing, Ohio.
He was a former employee of Standard Oil, Alling and Corey, and the Ohio Valley Mall. He was a Methodist by faith, and enjoyed boating, fishing, and outdoor activities.
George was known for his kindness to animals and demonstrated his love for them by adopting every stray to ever cross his path.
Friends and family will be received at Toothman Funeral Home, 141 S. Marietta St., St. Clairsville, Ohio on Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 12 noon until time of service at 3 p.m. with Wayne Clark officiating.
Belmont County Veteran's Association will provide military honors at 2:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of George, to the Belmont County Animal Shelter, 45244 National Rd., St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950.
