George Glen Conrad, 81 of St. Clairsville, Ohio formerly of Columbus died Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Wheeling Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1926 in Nelsonville, Ohio, a son of the late Glen Conrad and Ada Dille Conrad.
George was a retired electrical engineer for the U.S. Can Company in Weirton, a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in St. Clairsville where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Financial Secretary, and Church Council member. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, he attended OCS and was a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an adult education instructor of basic electricity at the Belmont-Harrison JVS, and a 35 year member of St. Clairsville American Legion Post 159 and held a private pilot?s license.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Conrad; a sister, Mary Caminiti.
He resided in St. Clairsville with his loving wife of 58 years, Julia Hegedus Conrad in a home which George built entirely himself.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Cornelia (Jeff) Davis Gill and Catherine (Richard) Yeager; 6 grandchildren, Ricky, Zachary, Carly Julianna, Catherine Yeager, Faith Nicole Davis and George Gill all of Mercer, Pennsylvania; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Monday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in St. Clairsville with Rev. Donna Kraus officiating. Burial follows in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church.
Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct full military services on Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. in the church.
