George Raymond "Ray" Smith, Jr., 76, of Rand Ave., St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born February 27, 1927 in Brookside, Ohio, a son of the late George R. Smith, Sr., and Madelyn Thompson Smith.
He was a retired Engineer from Ohio Bell, a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in St. Clairsville, a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of Bridgeport Lodge No. 181 F&AM and the Osiris Temple of the Shrine in Wheeling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Ann Jones Smith; sister, Nanette Kachur and brother, Robert W. Smith.
Surviving are a son, Gary Smith and his wife Gayle of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Kay E. Smith of St. Clairsville and dear friend, Emma Grelles of Bridgeport.
Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday with Pastor Leland Eilert officiating. Burial follows in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
