Freda McFarland James, age 106, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Monday, October 10, 2005 at Forest Hill Nursing Home in St. Clairsville. She was born July 5, 1899 in Round Bottom, Monroe County, Ohio, daughter of the late William R. McFarland and Ella Magdalene Imhoff McFarland.
Freda was a retired secretary and office manager for the War and Treasury Departments in North Carolina during World War II. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allison James in 1975; four brothers, Earl, Ray, Everett and Wayne McFarland; and three sisters, Olga Howard, Beulah Haskell and Elizabeth Stowers and a niece, Nancy McFarland Wood.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Mrs. John "Bette" McKelvey of St. Clairsville, Jane Downs of Memphis, Tennessee, Lori Horvath of Shadyside, Deanna Shiben of Wheeling, Frank B. Haskell of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Thomas McFarland of Barnesville; and several great nieces and great nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville, with Rev. Homer Harden officiating.
