Fred Bernard (Hudock) Hudak, Sr., 89, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 at his home. He was born Aug. 7, 1914 in Portage, Pa. A son of the late John Hudock and Julia Skalsky Hudock.
He was a retired coal miner from Lorain Coal and Dock in Blaine, a former custodian for St. Clairsville-Richland Schools and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clairsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Awilda Ott Hudak; daughter, Gertrude Kiss; infant son, Frank; brothers, John, Steve and Louis, sisters, Mildred Kolenich, Susan Phillips, Mary Hines and Julia Johnson.
Surviving are children, Fred Hudak, Jr. of Crystal River, Fla., John "Dan" (Virginia) Hudock of St. Clairsville, Stephen (Mary) Hudak of Toledo, Bernardine (Richard) Sykes of Morristown, Mary (Greg) Bowser of St. Clairsville, Michael (Jane) Hudak of Brunswick, Ohio, Anthony (Diane) Hudak of Lafferty, Elizabeth (Leonard) Snedeker of St. Clairsville, and Edward (Karen) Hudak of Bethesda; a son-in-law, Joseph Kiss, of Martins Ferry; 25 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary's Church in St. Clairsville with Father Thomas Chillog the celebrant. Burial follows in Belmont County Memorial Park in St. Clairsville.
A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, in the funeral home.
