Balcar, Frank Andrew, 95, died peacefully on November 6th after a brief illness. He was born in Fairpoint, Ohio on June 27, 1915 to Mary and Joseph Balcar.

He is survived by "the love of his life" his wife of 69 years Lenor Walter Balcar and their five children Bruce Balcar and wife Betty, St. Clairsville, Paul Balcar and wife Linda, St. Clairsville and Palm Beach, Florida, Karen McGraw and husband John, Taylors, South Carolina, Mark Balcar, St Clairsville and Barbara Balcar, St. Clairsville and Palm Beach, Florida. Frank is also survived by a sister Agnes Paroulek, Arlington, VA, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Frank graduated in 1934 from Franklin High School, New Athens Ohio and in 1942 graduated with a Mining Engineering degree (BEM) from Ohio State University. He was a 73 year member of the AIME (American Institute of Mining Engineers) and a 56 year member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, St. Clairsville. In 1946 he founded the B.B.R. Drilling Company and by early 1954 his company was the largest diamond core drilling company in Ohio with operations throughout the United States and Cuba.

Frank's additional international drilling experience included working for President Charles DeGaulle of France on France's coal production and with various companies in Mexico, Honduras, Canada, Dominican Republic, Columbia and China. He was an avid pilot with multi-engine and instrument ratings logging over 20,000 hours and flew his airplanes until he was 89 years old.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, St. Clairsville. Arrangements are entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Calvary Presbyterian Church or The Salvation Army.
