Ernest DeBertrand Jr, 71 of St. Clairsville, Ohio passed away at his home on December 12. 2020.  He was born August 8, 1949 in Wheeling, West Virginia; the son of the late Ernest and Geraldine (Smith) DeBertrand.

Ernest was a 1967 graduate of St. Clairsville High School and a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Technology.  He was a Vietnam War Veteran.  Ernie was self-employed for 48 years, operating his own company Ernie's Electric.  In addition to operating his own business, he was employed by F.H. Vincenzo and Sons, Belmont Community Hospital as Maintenance Supervisor for over twenty years until his retirement in 2012, and then continued his work with DePerna Electric for the last twelve years. Ernie was a member of the St. Clairsville VFW Post #5356.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his step-mother Shirley (Boynes) DeBertrand, infant sister Judith Ann DeBertrand and brother-in-law Gregory Gazda.

Ernie is survived by his son, Jon (Lynette) DeBertrand; daughter Nichole (Chris) Ponzani; three grandsons, Jacob DeBertrand, Zane and Matthew Ponzani; ex-wife, Teresa (Gazda) DeBertrand, and brother Graylan DeBertrand, all of St. Clairsville.  Also surviving is brother Roger DeBertrand (Indiana), sister Valerie DeBertrand (Massachusetts), aunt Jane Moore (Columbus) and uncle Herb Gary Boggs (Maryland). He also leaves extended family Carl and Cathy Gazda, Richard and Carol Berry, Colleen Gazda and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Per Ernie's wishes, there will be no visitation. The family wishes to thank his many friends who offered support, encouragement and prayers during his lengthy illness. Care entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home St Clairsville, Ohio.
