Ernest L. "Lonnie" Burroughs, 79, of Cadiz, OH passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, in Cadiz.  He was born April 4, 1943, in Harrisville, OH, a son of the late Robert G. and Eileen Kliner Burroughs.

Ernest was retired from the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and serving two tours of duty in the Vietnam Conflict and also retired as a Corrections Officer in the State of Missouri and was a Methodist by faith.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 34 in Cadiz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sonny McConnell; an infant brother, George Edward McConnell; a sister, Laura Fryer; his stepfather, Raymond McConnell.

Surviving are his children, Ernest L. Burroughs, Jr., Leva Lorraine Burroughs and Becky Burroughs all of Minnesota; three grandchildren, Noah, Chloe and Aidan; siblings, Karen (Jim) Garrett of Lafferty, OH, Sue Kanopsic, Andrea (David) Swann both of Cadiz and Kevin (Lynn) McConnell of Scio, OH.

Family and friends will be received on Friday from 4-8 pm at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville with additional visitation on Saturday from 11 am until time of funeral service at 1 pm with Rev. Cherie Kail officiating.  Final arrangements will be held at the convenience of the family.  Full Military Honors will be conducted by Cadiz American Legion Post 34 at 12:30 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Athens VFD or House of the Shepherd Church.
