Ernest H. "Shood" "Fred" Brunner Jr., 94, of Shadyside died Friday, September 29, 2017 at Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire.
He was born near Clarington, Ohio on December 8, 1922 a son of Ernest H. Brunner and Anna Bigler Brunner.
Ernest was a retired foreman of the former North American Coal No. 1 mine at Powhatan Point and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and loved to hunt grouse and he was a member of the True Sportsman's Club in Jacobsburg.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ramsay Brunner; a son, Ernest "Butch" Brunner III; a grandson, Charlie Brunner; a great granddaughter, Abigail McAfee; five brothers, Leroy, Charles, William, Emerson and Floyd "Sam" Brunner; and four sisters, Alverna "Fern" Phillips, Betty Brooks, Viola Sims and Ella Mae Ramsay.
Surviving are his two sons, Ronald (Judy) Brunner of Powhatan Point and Mark (Noreen) Brunner of Jacobsburg; six stepchildren, Bernard Johnson, Julia Beckett, Annette Hammond, Steven Johnson, Eric Johnson and Jeramy Johnson; his girlfriend, Wanda Mihalek of Pennsylvania; his brother, Franklin "Hank" Brunner of Jacobsburg; two grandsons, Ernie VanDyne and Mark Brunner; five granddaughters, April (Rich) Hagedorn, Megan Brunner, Candy Jo (Ray) Hathaway, Heather Brunner and Melissa (Tom) Stevens; fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg, Ohio, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Wayne Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Armstrong Cemetery, Armstrongs Mills, Ohio with Full Military Honors conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
