Kalan, Elizabeth, 92, of Neffs, Ohio died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in Forest Hill Nursing Home.

She was born on June 6, 1920 in Adena, Ohio, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Novak Kalan.

Liz worked as a factory worker in Cleveland, Ohio manufacturing toys and furniture for a short time. She was mainly a homemaker and cared for her parents and sisters. She was a member of the Coalbrook Presbyterian Church in Neffs where she was a deacon and was a member of the Presbyterian Women.

In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene K. Vargo, Wilma L. Kalan, Helen Kalan and Irma Matis; a brother, John Kalan Jr.; a niece, Linda J. Matis; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Vargo.

Surviving are a nephew, Donald J. Vargo and his wife Kay of Damascus, Maryland; a niece-in-law, Penny Vargo of Frederick, Maryland; two great nephews, Steven (Julie) Vargo of Richmond, Virginia and Danny (Jennifer) Vargo of Niceville, Florida; a great great niece, Olivia Vargo; 3 great great nephews, Owen, Carter and Cole Vargo; and friend, Larue Mills.

Family and friends will be received on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m., with Pastor David Demarest officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville.
