Obituary
Elena Nicola Giacoma Maria Caputi Blake, 94 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Friday, September 22, 2017 at Adena Health and Rehabilition Center.
She was born April 30, 1923 in Bari (Puglia) Italy, a daughter of the late Nicola Maria Caputi and Angela Fortunate (Milella) Caputi.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Blake, Sr.; sister, Giuditta (Dina) Caputi; great grandson, Cody King; great granddaughter, Madalyn Abbinante; uncle, Vincenzo Milella; and sister-in-law, Sue Morgan.
Elena was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clairsville and the Rosary Society.
In Bari, Italy she was a kindergarten teacher and middle school teacher until she met and married Orval during WWII.
In 1946 she arrived in New York. She loved her large family and enjoyed their many get togethers. She was an exceptional cook, enjoyed flowers and gardening. She loved to design and make clothing for her children and grandchildren. She also loved to decorate birthday cakes and to create crafts and toys with her family.
She instilled the importance of faith and family in her children.
Surviving are her children, Vincent (Judi Powers) Blake of Claxton, GA, Anthony (Jeanne Schweizer) Blake of Stoneboro, PA, Mrs. Rita (Randy) Cope of Zanesville, OH, Mrs. Judy (Frank) Oden of Florence, KY, Mrs. Lillian (Larry) Siebieda of Bellaire, OH, Joseph (Debbie McElroy) Blake of Columbus, OH, Nicholas Blake (Diane Russell) of Atlanta, GA, Mrs. Mary (Donnie) Sigler of Cadiz, OH, Orval Blake, Jr. (Stephanie Speed) of Powell, OH and Mrs. Janice (Glenn) Tritt of Flowery Branch, GA; 25 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; a niece and nephew and several grand nieces and grand nephews.
Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clairsville on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. with Father Edward Maxfield and Father Timothy McGuire the Celebrants.
Interment follows in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Bellaire, OH.
A vigil service will be held at 5 P.M. on Monday in the funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or The American Cancer Society.
