Edwin Laverne "Leg" Scales, 87 of 51515 Wegee Rd., Bellaire, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at his home.

He was born April 27, 1916 in Key, Ohio. A son of the late Murray Scales and Mabel Unterzuber Scales.

Leg was a retired carpenter from the Carpenter?s Local No. 3 in Wheeling, A member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church at Key Ridge, an Army veteran of WWII and retired Army Reservist, a member of Shadyside American Legion Post 521, the American Rabbit Breeder?s Assoc. and the Beekeeper?s Assoc.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Stewart Scales, and grandson, Clinton Dorr Montgomery.

Surviving are his wife, Minnie Goldsmith Scales; two sons, Jodia Scales of Killingsworth, CT, and Jan M. Scales of Findlay, Ohio; two daughters, Reba Mathias of Pittsburgh and Marla Montgomery of Williamstown, WV; a sister, Romaine Spansail of Granada Hills, CA; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Pete Walburn officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens at Pleasant Grove.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions.
