Edward J. Niemiec, 89, of Belmont, Ohio, died Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Forest Hill Care Center.
He was born on October 12, 1936, in Flushing, Ohio, a son of the late Frank and Martha Stalz Niemiec.
Ed was a graduate of Flushing High School and a retired coal miner from Consolidation Coal Co. and Cravat Coal Co. and a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville; a member of the St. Clairsville Eagles and Fairpoint Polish Club, a social member of the St. Clairsville American Legion and VFW Posts. He enjoyed the outdoors and Polka music and Polka dances.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Albert Niemiec; two sisters, Sophia Repan and Mary Ann Niemiec; and a niece, Diane Smith.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Stolirchick Niemiec; son, William (Gretchen) Wickom; daughter, Mari (Chris) Young; grandchildren, Bailey, Jack, Megan and Chris; a brother, Henry (Grace) Niemiec; a sister, Rose Chini; sister-in-law, Helen Niemiec; brother-in-law, Dan (Carol) Stolirchick; nieces and nephews, Lyndsey White, Joe Stolirchick, Karen (Eric) Semon, Joanne (Jay) Muether, Judy (Rick) Oberdick, Joyce (Joe) Drake, Particia (Don) Headley, Betsy (Dave) Phillips, Linda (John Gavenas) Niemiec.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, April 7th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Father Thomas Chillog officiating. The burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
Memorial donations may be made to Valley Hospice.
