Charles Edgar Grant, age 81, of Centerville, Ohio, died Saturday, August 9, 2003 at his home. He was born October 2, 1921 at Kelsey Station, Jacobsburg, Ohio, son of the late Charles E. and Cora Long Grant.
He was a retired electrician from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation; a member of the Centerville Christian Church where he served as Deacon; Ed was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II; he was a member and Tyler of Weyer Lodge # 541 at Centerville; a member of Weyer Chapter # 515 Order of Eastern Star; a volunteer and founding member of Smith Township Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Shacklock Grant; a son, Eugene "Barney" Grant; a step-daughter, Ruth Ellen Seely; two brothers, David Wayne Grant and Robert Grant; and a sister, Mary Dunfee.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Lash Walters Grant; Four Daughters, Joyce Van Fossen of Clinton, OH, Phyllis Steen of Barnesville, Lucinda Carpenter of Morristown and Janie Phillips of Cleveland, OH; three sons, Raymond Grant of Kenton, OH, Darrell Grant and Ernest Grant both of Centerville; a step-daughter, Debbie Schroeder of Centerville; two stepsons, Brett Walters of Centerville and Wayne Bradley Walters of Avon Lake, OH; 20 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; and 1 step great great grandchild.
Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 11 a.m., with Joe Lorimor officiating. Burial will follow at the Concord Cemetery, Centerville, Ohio. Masonic services will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Smith Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. will follow with services at 7:15 p.m. at the funeral home. Full military graveside services will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions.
