Wurster, Dorothy D. "Dot", 85, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Sunday, August 16, 2009 Belmont Manor, St. Clairsville.
She was born at West Point, NY on May 7, 1924, a daughter of the late Major General John M. and Anne C. Whitelegg Devine.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles A. Wurster, Colonel, USAF Ret. on August 9, 2009; a brother, John A. Devine, and sister, Ruth Devine Finlay.
Dorothy was an accomplished artist, a member of Artworks Around Town at Centre Market, and the recipient of numerous awards for her abstract paintings. She was also an author. Her book Army Brat: My Story is n the collection of the St. Clairsville Public Library. She graduated from Russel Sage College in Troy, New York with a bachelors degree. She also studied painting under Gene Davis and Thomas Downing, both artists from the Washington Color School movement.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was also the daughter, wife and mother of professional military men.
She was a member of the East Richland Friends Church at St. Clairsville.
She is survived by her children, Vice Admiral (Ret.) Charles D. (George Ann) Wurster of San Diego, CA, Lieutenant General Donald C. (Ronda) Wurster of Hurlburt AFB, FL; Robert A. (Dale) Wurster of Berkeley Springs, WV; Polly (Mark) Loy of St. Clairsville, OH; John P. (Eva) Wurster of Rockwall, TX; George P. (Denise) Wurster of Winter Garden, FL and Richard A. Wurster of St. Clairsville, OH; a brother, Donald Devine of Leesburg, VA; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, OH on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 2 p.m. until time of public services for Dorothy and her husband Charles at 4 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Ickes officiating. Private burial will take place at the West Point Cemetery, West Point, NY.
