Donald E. Athey, 90 of Colerain, Ohio died peacefully on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Adena Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harrisville, Ohio.

He was born on November 30, 1925 at Armstrongs Mills, Ohio, a son of the late Harley Athey and Hazel Kocher Athey.

Don was a Chiropractor for over 50 years in Martins Ferry. He was a Veteran of World War II and a former Prisoner of War in Germany. He served with the 95th Infantry Division. He was a life member of The DAV, VFW, American Legion, Ex-prisoners of War, Military Order of the Purple Heart, 65 year member of Weyer Masonic Lodge, 32nd Consistory, Osiris Shrine Temple and the Royal Order of Jesters Court 13. The American Chiropractic Association and the Ohio State Chiropractic Association.

He was a member of the East Richland Evangelical Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Ann Kiefer Athey; a sister, Edna Beck.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice M. Strode of San Diego, CA; son-in-law, George M. Strode of San Diego, CA; daughter, Melanie A. Schaefer of Tampa, FL; a son, Donald C. Athey of Galloway, OH; a granddaughter, Angela W. Cooper and a great granddaughter, Gabriella G. Cooper of Tampa.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home, 141 S. Marietta Street, St. Clairsville, Ohio on Friday, January 15th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. where services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Wenger officiating.

Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

Full military honors will be provided by the Belmont County Veterans Association on Saturday at the cemetery.
