Dennis James Cook, 75, of Flushing, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia. He was born October 28, 1949, in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Floyd and Winnie Felisky Cook.
Dennis worked for Ferro Alloy Steel Mill in Powhatan for many years. He was a 1967 graduate of Powhatan High School. He was the Chief of Police in Powhatan for almost 22 years. He was the Deputy Sheriff of Belmont County. He proudly served in the United States Army, being awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter M16 Badge. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed deer hunting. He loved his community and was always looking out for everyone and keeping everybody safe.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Darryl Cook and a sister, Sheryl Willis.
He is survived by his children, James D. Cook II, Janna Lyn Sutherland, and Joy Birkheimer; significant other, Deborah Meloy; a brother, Bill Cook; three sisters, Cindy (Dale) Huffman, Jeanette (Pat) McCugh, Donna Deaton; seven grandchildren, Brandi, Kahla and Ian Sutherland, Bryce Cook, Breanna Mileto, Courtney and John James Shreffler; and three great-grandchildren, Aubree and Nathen Francis and Oliver Shreffler.
As per his wishes, no visitation or services are planned.
Arrangements are entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville.
