Charles David Cope, 80, of Wheeling, West Virginia, died Tuesday, August 16, 2022, in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born March 29, 1942, in Neffs, Ohio, a son of the late Harold and Sara Neff Cope.
Dave was a 1960 graduate of Bellaire High School and following graduation entered the U.S. Air Force as a morse code intercept operator deciphering Russian messages serving from 1961-1965. He was an avid all Ohio sports fan including OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavaliers. Honoring Dave's love of sports, his family would like for anyone attending the services to dress in casual attire and wear any Ohio sports team apparel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dr. James Cope, William Cope and Jerry Cope, and three sisters, Betty Moullet, Jean Bleth and Joanne Speece.
Dave is survived by his four children, Garrett (Stephanie) Cope, Courtney (Melody) Cope, Joshua Cope, and Sarah (Larry) Angel; two brothers, Richard (Elizabeth) Cope and Ellis "Tom" (Marueen) Cope; eight grandchildren, Tyler, Gentry,Madison, Kaydence, Molly, Jameson, Kinsley and Violet; and a great granddaughter, Evelyn.
Family and friends will be received on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where visitation will also be held on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Joshua "Keif" Cope officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association will be held in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
