Daniel Joseph "Danny" Sweetnich, 93, of Massillon, Ohio, died February 2, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio.
He was born January 11, 1931, in Powhatan Point, Ohio, son of the late Joseph and Barbara Priester Sweetnich.
Danny was a retired payroll clerk from Republic Steel. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Massillon American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph "Jake", Stephen, and Matthew Sweetnich; three sisters, Mary Jubera, Helen Strol and Barbara O'Dak; and his mother and father-in-law, Viola and Charles Sims.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan L. Sims Sweetnich; two children, Michelle (Mike) Brannigan and Michael (Lisa) Sweetnich; three grandchildren, Jason and Megan Brannigan and Jake Sweetnich; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, from 11 a.m. until time of services at Noon, beginning with Full Military Honors by the Belmont County Veterans Association and then a service officiated by Father Daniel Heusel. The burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery.
