Cloyd Richard "Mike" Michael, 83, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died July 22, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born March 11, 1937 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, the only son of the late Cloyd Morris Michael and Henrietta Kramer Michael.

Mike was a 1955 graduate of Saint Clairsville High School and a 1959 graduate of Ohio University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduation from Ohio University, Mike attended Officer's Candidate School in Rhode Island. He then embarked on a 17 year career in the United States Navy, eventually retiring as a full commander. Following active duty, Mike was employed as an industrial engineer for Consolidated Aluminum/Ormet Corp. for 35 years. However, of all of his titles and achievements, he was best known for being a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was a member of East Richland Evangelical Friends Church. He was a founding member and long time treasurer of the Ebenezer Zane Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Cumberland Trail Genealogical Society. Mike was an avid writer and authored 6 books that were published and was well-known for his letters to the editor in our local newspapers.

Surviving are his loving wife Cynthia L. Griffiths Michael; two children, Rich (Deidre) Michael and Megan (Ken) Furbee; four grandchildren, Michael (Katie Wolfe)Furbee, Gracie (Dom Wallace) Furbee, K.J. (Hannah Kerksiek) Furbee and Matt (Alecia) Furbee; two great grandchildren, Bella and Lincoln Furbee; and a special friend Jennifer Albaugh.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facial coverings will be required to attend a visitation on Monday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.  Private service will be at the convenience of the family.

Mike's family wants to especially thank the doctors, nurses and support staff of DaVita/Belmont Dialysis, Senior Services and Amedisys Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Senior Services of Belmont County.
