Charlotte Walters Grant, 96, of Centerville, Ohio, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 in Emerald Pointe Care Center, Barnesville. She was born April 15, 1921 in St. Clairsville, Ohio, daughter of the late Charles A. Lash and Ellen Kelly Rinker Lash.
Charlotte was a homemaker, a member of the Centerville Christian Church and former member of First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville. She was an author writing columns for the Barnesville Enterprise and wrote several short stories about her life that has been made into a book. Of her achievements, she was proud to have completed her schooling, having graduated high school with her daughter in 1969 and later attended college and she was a political activist working to secure benefits for coal miner's widows.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Walters; her second husband, Charles Edgar "Ed" Grant; two daughters, Ruth Ellen Seely and infant, Barbara Walters; a son, Wayne Bradley Walters; a stepson; a grandson, Cody Lee Schroeder; a brother, Charles Lash; and a sister, Evelyn Cooper.
Surviving are her daughter, Debbie (Wayne) Schroeder of Centerville; a son, Brett (Debbie) Walters of Centerville; a daughter-in-law, Anita Walters of Avon Lake, Ohio; four step-daughters; three step-sons; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; her sister, Patricia (Warner) Moore of Centerville; several nieces, nephews and many friends and neighbors.
Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Don Eberhart officiating. Burial will follow at the Concord Cemetery, Centerville.
