Charles Wallace "Charlie" Smith, age 73, of St. Clairsville and formerly of New Matamoras, OH, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at his home. He was born January 21, 1931 at Bellaire, Ohio, son of the late Charles Wilfred Smith and Mary Catherine Wallace Smith.
He was a retired employee from Ormet Corporation; a member of New Matamoras Baptist Church; a U. S. Coast Guard veteran serving during the Korean War; a member of Belmont Lodge # 16 F. & A.M. at St. Clairsville; Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Bellaire Council # 87; Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, Bellaire Chapter # 107; Knights Templar, Hope Commandery # 26 at Bridgeport; and the American Legion post # 64 at Marietta.
Surviving are three daughters, Kimberly (Hal) Payne of Marietta, Ohio, Marnie (Roger) Harrell of New Lexington, Ohio and Jana (Brian) Bauman of Lexington, SC; a son, John Smith of Belpre, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Tommy Barker, Meghan Barker, Andrew Harrell, Natalie Harrell, Kaylei Bauman, Michael Bauman, Katelynn Smith and Tanner "T.J." Smith.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Monday, June 14, 2004 at 1 p.m., with Rev. William Boyer officiating. Burial will follow at Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan Point, Ohio.
Masonic services will be held on Sunday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Full Military Graveside Services will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions.
