Carol Lee Sweeney, 89, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at her granddaughter’s home in Glencoe, Ohio. She was born July 15, 1937, in Bellaire, Ohio, a daughter of the late Earl Edwin Schmitt and Agnes Marie Neutzling Schmitt.

Carol was a former cook for Wheeling Jesuit University; she cleaned for Marriott Hotels and was a bartender for the St. Clairsville American Legion Post 159. She was an auxiliary member of Post 159 for 59 years. She was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ohio State Buckeyes. She was the biggest fan of watching her grandson play football for the St. Clairsville Red Devils. She was a member of Thoburn United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Harold J. Haught, second husband, Jerry J. Sweeney; three children, Kathy McKee, Penny and Steven Haught; two grandsons, Shane McKee and Keith Haught; two brothers, Jerry and Michael Schmitt; and one sister, Linda Lou Schmitt.

She is survived by her son, Richard (Patsy) Haught; grandchildren, Courtney (E.J.) Slocum; Brandy (Chris) Doll; Evan Haught and Jeramiah Dunn; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Dalton, Tyler, Kyle and Siden, Bentley, Evelette and Austin.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 1 -2 pm at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville. Final arrangements will be held at the convenience of the family.
