Obituary

C. Richard (Dick) Hardesty. Born September 3, 1935 in St. Clairsville, Ohio to July 19, 2020.

He Graduated from St. Clairsville High School in 1953.  He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in October 1953 and served three years.  The final year was with the 12 th Marines in Okinawa, where he took part in an amphibious landing on Iwo Jima during the war games of February 1956.

Dick worked for two years in Cleveland before moving to Akron to attend Hamel-Actual Business College.  He graduated from Hamel Actual in May of 1959 and started his career in Accounting.  He worked as an accountant until his retirement in 1997.  He attended the University of Akron and Kent State University.

Dick moved to Kent, Ohio in February of 1959 and married Dorothy Sanda of Maynard, Ohio.

He was an avid cyclist, and member of the League of American Wheelmen in the 1970's.  He also enjoyed woodworking and weaving.  He was a member of the Ohio Arts and Crafts Guild for a number of years.  In the late 1970's and early 1980's Dick participated as a woodworker in craft shows and fairs in the northeast Ohio area.  In the early 2000's some of Dick's weavings of South-western rugs won awards in local fiber shows.

An avid horseshoe player, Dick was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association and the Ohio Horseshoe Pitchers Association.  He participated in tournaments through his late 60's.

He was preceded in death by his father J. Paul Hardesty, Mother Ruth (Smiley) Hardesty, brothers, David, Robert, and John.

Dick is survived by his son, Douglas of Chardon, Ohio and Grandson Ian (Samantha) Hardesty of Chardon, Ohio, sister-in-law Nancy (Baugh) Hardesty of Beulah, Colorado, and brother-in-law Bob Sanda, of Solon, Ohio as well as nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place.  A private family burial will take place at a later date at Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Arrangements are entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.
