Obituary

Clarence "Roger" Clark, 73, passed away at home on Saturday, February 23, 2019 surrounded by his beloved family. Roger was born in Bellaire, OH on April 18, 1945 to his parents, Clarence and Wanda Clark. He was a member of East Richland Friends Church and Christian by faith.

Roger has two brothers, John (Cheryl) Gargala of Warnock and Gary (Nancy) Clark of Glencoe and a sister, Arlene (Gene) Pomykala of Washington, PA.

Roger is survived by his darling wife and high school sweetheart of 55 years, Leslye (Diab) Clark, and they have five children who they cherish. Roger (Lisa) Clark of Jacobsburg, OH; Robin (Bobby) Long of Parrish, FL; Rachelle (Todd) Maleski of Fairfax, VA; Ryan (Lisa) Clark of Belmont, OH; and Rayna (Davey) Jones of Jacobsburg, OH. Roger and Leslye have 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Roger was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kayla Hastings.

Roger was a retired coal miner who began working at the age of 18 with his father at Hanna Coal Company in Cadiz, OH before moving to Consol Coal Company, North American Coal at Quarto # 4 Coal Mine.

After retiring, Roger went on to work for the Belmont Correctional Institution in St. Clairsville, OH as the Head Groundskeeper where he made many lifelong friends.

Our father touched many lives in many different ways. He was a simple man who enjoyed the simpler things in life. At the top of his list was crappie fishing with his brothers, John and Gary, of which many stories could be written.

Dad loved mowing his grass and taking care of things around the house. Picking raspberries in July and watching Ohio State football in the fall were among his favorite things to do.

When free time allowed, Dad loved hosting Euchre games at his home with his buddies who worked at the prison, fishing trips with his brothers and sons to Georgia, weekend getaways to Virginia and Florida to see his daughters, and in his prime, playing golf where he could easily pull off any shot on the course from any distance with his "trusty 5 wood".

Our father will be deeply missed by all who came to know him, but we will rest easier now knowing that his time of suffering has come to an end.

Visitation will be held at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 1 p.m. until time of Celebration of Life Service at 4 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Wenger officiating.
