Bruce A. Henderson, 94, of St. Clairsville, Ohio passed away Monday, June 27, 2022, at Forest Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in St. Clairsville.
He was born August 21, 1927, in St. Clairsville, the son of the late Wilbur Calvin and Florence Ault Henderson.
Bruce is survived by daughter Karen (Larry) Fraleigh of St. Clairsville, granddaughter Melissa Fraleigh of St. Clairsville, sister Doris Ochs of Frederick, Md., and stepbrother-in-law Wayne "Zeke" Ward of Tiffin, Oh. along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; sister Wilma Scarff and her husband Jack; sister Frances Henderson, brother Alfred Henderson and his wife Marilyn; brother Howard Henderson; brother-in-law Paul Ochs; sister-in-law, Eileen Detling and her husband Robert; stepbrothers-in-law, Al Ward and his wife June, and Jerry Ward and his wife Ellie.
Bruce joined the Navy in 1945, serving through the end of World War II before being honorably discharged.
Bruce was a retired construction superintendent for Evick Construction. Prior to joining Evick Construction, Bruce worked for St. Clair Lumber.
Bruce was a longtime member of the St. Clairsville Volunteer Fire Department, rising to the position of Chief before retiring. Bruce subsequently served on the Cumberland Trail Fire Board for several years.
Always active in community service, Bruce was a Charter Member of the St. Clair Ruritan club. During his time of service to the club, he held a number of local and state positions. He was also a past member of the St. Clairsville Union Cemetery Board of Directors.
Bruce was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville.
Bruce enjoyed playing cards and going to St. C. football, volleyball and basketball games. He also had passion for the Ohio State Buckeye Football team. His true enjoyment came spending time with family and friends and vacationing.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Forest Hills for the excellent compassionate care Bruce received during the final months of his life.
Friends and family will be received on Friday from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville with the Fireman's Last Call Ceremony taking place at 7 p.m. Visitation will again be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Homer Harden officiating. Burial will follow in St. Clairsville Union Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Belmont County Veterans Association.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville and the Cumberland Trail Fire Department.
